Remember my lovely friend Alyssa Baron-Klask?She came and stayed with me for a few days earlier this month and it was AWESOME. Anyway - she has teamed up with the equally lovely Alex Winston (remember her? If you don't, familiarize yourself, dammit!) for the music video for Alex's new single "Fire Ant." I'm obsessed with it - such a great team up of home-town talent. Alyssa is an extremely talented artist who is now specializing in - wait for it - PUPPETS. She hand-made EVERYTHING you see in the video and I am absolutely blown away by the ending product, both visually and musically. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
How adorable! Kris Nations is a jewelry line that specializes in unique bracelets, rings, necklaces and other shiny goodies. Saw a friend of mine post this necklace on Instagram and I instantly fell in love. I love Michigan related things, but aside from my Detroit Red Wings t-shirt it feels a little strange for me to wear actual clothing with the word "MICHIGAN" emblazoned on it. It's so pretty and delicate but completely unique to state pride jewelry I've seen before. I love the necklaces in the shape of the states that include the heart over the hometown, but these just feel a little bit more unique. You can also get it with the UP! I know how many of my michigan friends love going up north!
If you live away from your home state, like I do, you can take a little piece of them with you no matter where you go. If you live in Chicago, you can pick one up at a boutique called Eskell in Wicker Park. If not, you can nab one at Kris Nation's own website! krisnations.com They're super affordable clocking in just under $48.00 I can't wait get one around my neck! I'm normally a silver girl, but for some reason I really love the gold version...

ps sorry for the lack of my "weekly" updates. finally got around to
reading the hunger games, and my whole life sort of stopped until i
finished 2 out of the 3 books. i become an obsessive reader and
completely ignore the rest of the world.
I'm a little late on the bandwagon. I don't know why but lately I'm feeling all sorts of dark colors, all while pastels come into the shops. I'm really craving a proper leather motorcycle jacket. I have an old faux leather bomber from Urban Outfitters from ages ago that I'm considering studding it instead of blowing money I don't technically have on something I don't technically need. I really enjoy the aesthetics of a pretty feminine blouse mixed with a hard leather jacket. Regardless, I am excited for leather jacket weather! As much as I love my dalmation jacket, I'm over heavy winter coats.
o7. matte nail polish - can't find the actual nars polish for sale online anywhere but the link points to a YSL black nailpolish duo of shiny/matte for $30 which isn't too bad. i'm a sucker for their product design, anyway.
This is the most wonderful photoshoot I've seen in a while. The wonderful Leith Clark styled this photoshoot of the lovely Kiki for Vogue Italia February 2012. So ethereal yet comical! It's probably one of the most beautiful shoots I've seen for a while. The muted, soft backdrop really makes the bright colors of the clothes pop!
No new kirsten flyers yet, anxiously waiting for a new one. Oh, where are you, kikibomber?
o1. Vera moda heart print collared dress from asos. see those little polka dots? they're actually tiny hearts! love the natural waistline and the oversized collar. great basic!
o2. My new favorite piece! ASOS alphabet print skater dress! Skater dresses are my favorite cut of dress, so easy and flattering for every body type. The alphabet print on the dress just kills me and the exposed zipper on the back is really cute. It is little short, though! (eek!)
o3. Continuing my theme of dresses Shamrock Star dress from Modcloth - but it's already sold out! I'm dying to own a green dress to compliment my red hair (without looking too much like a leprechaun!) I love the back! I seem to be a total sucker for the details of dresses these days.
o4. American Apparel nail varnish in T-shirt. I recently purchased the solid gold and it's a wonderful formula, thick and even coverage. I have a mother-of-pearl color nail varnish from Chanel from a few years ago but I'd love a nice basic white to wear often during the spring. I'd also love to do the tuxedo manicure like Zooey Deschanel wore at the Golden globes!
o5. And finally a nightshirt from Topshop, which quite frankly I would wear during the day with leggings and a sweater. I once saw a shirt from Pink by Victoria Secret which said "Sleep All Day" in big bold letters down the front. I often regret not purchasing it and wearing it every day of my life, so everyone can know just how much I love sleeping.
Still having a very mild winter that leaves me both suspicious and excited and itching for spring. How wonderful will it be to have a Valentine's day where I don't have to wear snow boots out! What are your plans for Valentine's day?
Have you met Alex Winston? Probably not, she's not a big name yet. But she should be!I went to high school with this talented little lady and can vouch for her real, actual, raw talent! I remember realizing she was gonna go places when she opened up for Ted Nugent in Michigan. Not exactly the claim to fame an indie artist wants, me thinks, but I was impressed! There's nothing quite as other-worldly as seeing a girl from high school on the front page of stereogum.com promoting her new video for her single - but that's exactly what happened! Alex has released her Sister Wife EP in 2011, including two of my favorite songs Choice Notes and Sister Wife which frankly, are music to my ear holes. She's got sort of a Joanna Newsom-esque tone in her voice and inflection but with awesome electronic techno beats and intensely catchy choruses. I really want her to open for Lykke Li. I think she'd fit right in!
Alex just recently released the video for her single "Choice Notes" in which she floats around the Heidelberg Project in downtown Detroit with a couple of friendly ghosts and some confetti. Plus, she looks super cute. Don't believe me? Watch for yourself:
Now that you've had the ear worm burrow into your brain and lodge the chorus into your head, enjoy some of Alex's other fantastic music. In 2010, she released The Basement Covers EP, in which she does a kick ass cover of "The Cave" by Mumford and Sons. You can watch more of her videos and listen to more awesome music here at her youtube page or the Alex Winston page of grooveshark page. It's the only place I can find to listen to her Basement Covers EP. Unfortunately, her Sister Wife EP isn't available for purchase through iTunes at the moment, but her Velvet Elvis EP is available currently which includes three versions of her song "Velvet Elvis" (which I think is kinda sexy, but kinda creepy) and her new song, Fire Ant, which will have a pretty sweet music video coming out soon (which I will also totally blog about.)
Stick it out until March 5th when her debut album King Con will be available to get your greedy little paws on it.

PS: Already got shipment notifications on my Jason Wu x Target items! Come to Momma!
Finally! It's over! After several days of anxiety over how Target.com would handle their next designer collaboration, 11:00 pm chicago time rolled around and the non-stop refreshing party began. It wasn't nearly as bad as I had anticipated. Although they still haven't gotten all the bugs worked out of their system (the search page always came up with errors any time you typed in anything with the words 'jason wu' in it) there were plenty of helpful people on their Target Style facebook page and twitter page consistently linked to items as they appeared on the website in seemingly random pages. Instead of putting all the items up online at once, they started slowly filtering in the items through strategic places on the website like the 'accessories' page and the 'women's clothing' main page. One clever Target shopper eventually figured out if you type the words "Jason Wu for Target" with quotations around it in the search engine, the entire collection appeared! I managed to snag the four items posted above and went to bed before 2 a.m! Total success! I do wish I had grabbed a sleeveless pleated blouse in yellow, but I'll live without it. I feel bad for the many people who shared their stories of heartless ebay scalpers clearing out shelves at Target early this morning, or those who were frustrated by Target's wonky sale style this morning online.
Those who didn't get what they wanted, don't despair! People ordered multiple sizes, and are sure to return things in the next week or so. I've spotted Missoni for Target items online in the clearance section. Some items might be restocked on Target.com later this week! Also, watch this incredibly attractive commercial staring some very attractive men to help heal your shopping wounds of missing french new waive attractiveness.
Found! Another great kiki bomb by rachel out and about. Probably the best I've seen so far! Someone took my "WHO ARE YOU?" photo response of Toby Maguire out of my "For Rent" flyer box, but I don't think it was the Kiki-bomber. Probably just a disgruntled person who works for my apartment company.
This week, let your eyes gaze upon Kirsten at the Sundance Film Festival promotion "Bachlorette" again. There were some new candids posted of her wandering around her neighborhood posting Lost Cat flyers, but they made me really sad. Why would I put that on my blog?!
Love this portrait. Her eyes are stunning! One of the things I love about the Sundance Festival is that you get to see all the most beautiful people walking around in cozy jumpers and boots like us regular folk. Yellow must be her new favorite color, as she also wore it to the Rodarte dinner in late January!
brb, buying tons of yellow so i can be as cute as her!
