LISTEN: Alex Winston

Have you met Alex Winston? Probably not, she's not a big name yet. But she should be!I went to high school with this talented little lady and can vouch for her real, actual, raw talent! I remember realizing she was gonna go places when she opened up for Ted Nugent in Michigan. Not exactly the claim to fame an indie artist wants, me thinks, but I was impressed! There's nothing quite as other-worldly as seeing a girl from high school on the front page of stereogum.com promoting her new video for her single - but that's exactly what happened! Alex has released her Sister Wife EP in 2011, including two of my favorite songs Choice Notes and Sister Wife which frankly, are music to my ear holes. She's got sort of a Joanna Newsom-esque tone in her voice and inflection but with awesome electronic techno beats and intensely catchy choruses. I really want her to open for Lykke Li. I think she'd fit right in!

Alex just recently released the video for her single "Choice Notes" in which she floats around the Heidelberg Project in downtown Detroit with a couple of friendly ghosts and some confetti. Plus, she looks super cute. Don't believe me? Watch for yourself:

Now that you've had the ear worm burrow into your brain and lodge the chorus into your head, enjoy some of Alex's other fantastic music. In 2010, she released The Basement Covers EP, in which she does a kick ass cover of "The Cave" by Mumford and Sons. You can watch more of her videos and listen to more awesome music here at her youtube page or the Alex Winston page of grooveshark page. It's the only place I can find to listen to her Basement Covers EP. Unfortunately, her Sister Wife EP isn't available for purchase through iTunes at the moment, but her Velvet Elvis EP is available currently which includes three versions of her song "Velvet Elvis" (which I think is kinda sexy, but kinda creepy) and her new song, Fire Ant, which will have a pretty sweet music video coming out soon (which I will also totally blog about.)

Stick it out until March 5th when her debut album King Con will be available to get your greedy little paws on it.
